There ain't no Just Journalism, there's just willyoucondemnathons

The scary thing is not so much that this stuff is woeful, it's that the whole site is like that. Erdogan shoots his mouth off, the Guardian decides to cover this on the website rather than in print, and this proves that they're all anti-Semites! This would be considered a second division gotcha on most Decent blogs.

Check out their Advisory Board.

Not sure why I was looking at it, but the stuff about the recent discussion of East Jerusalem settlements was really atrocious. Even one-eyed neocon-sympathising Cohen must be embarrassed by a claim that British broadsheet papers 'do not question the Palestinian contention that continued settlement building automatically ruins any chance for a Palestinian state, despite previous examples of Israel giving up settled land for peace', given that this is Cohen's stated position on the matter.

aaaaand bump, bump, that was the sound of Harry's Place throwing the Iranian democracy protestors under the bus:

Anyway, if the Iranian opposition movement is so weak and Ahmadinejad-esque that it feels "harmed" by someone going on a goodwill visit to the Middle East’s only democracy, then it’s a rotten, bigoted opposition movement anyway and not one I have any interest in supporting.

That's interesting from Alan Not the Minister's blurb, that there's a Festschrift for Prof Geras pending.

I know that Michael Ullman chap. I expect he is able to help out financially quite a lot.

Just Journalism? Are they still going? Takes me baaack to 2002. I thought they'd been superseded by some other arse-paralysingly self-righteous talking points distributor by now.

Anyway, if the Iranian opposition movement is so weak and Ahmadinejad-esque...

I thought everyone knew that the Iranian opposition was to the right of Ahmadinejad; there may be secular liberals in Iran, but they're not the main opposition lot. Calling themselves "Greens" - presumably after the Islamic flag, rather the carrot-chewing bicycling and recycling lot - is just an itsy-bitsy giveaway. I realise this point may be too subtle for Harry's Place, but here's the CIA Factbook on Iran: Iran's economy is marked by an inefficient state sector, reliance on the oil sector, which provides the majority of government revenues, and statist policies, which create major distortions throughout the system.

Get that? Iran is reliant on oil; there isn't going to be 'leave the car at home, and put a jumper on if you're cold' party - or not one that can hope to win any seats. Still, Harry's Place will now turn on Peter Tatchell, and his Iranian oppisition-esque 'green party'. [sigh]
