As an aside on Poland, Adam Zamoyski's recent history is very useful for putting the place into context - a bit fast paced, given that even the most famous events rarely get more than half a page, but a damn useful primer for bluffers that's slightly more readable than Norman Davies.

Note however the attack on Melanie Phillips (she being the 'one of our more anguished commentators'). I think it's fair to say there's been some revaluation by Aaro and similar in the last few weeks of whether Melanie Phillips is a fit person with which to be associated.

well yes, so why repeat the whole thing stripped of its political point?

In related news, isn't it surprising that AFAICTWORT, Daniel Finkelstein has yet to express an opinion on this exquisitely embarrassing problem for the Conservative Party?
