what's left of Aaro watch

Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve been outed.

But I'm a little more concerned by the authors of Aaronovitch Watch, some of who are connected with a Trot totalitarian (as if there were any other kind of Trot) blog.

Now speaking as a Decent anti-Decent with indecent antecedents I have to say I’m shocked and outraged by this revelation.

Come on Ben, don’t be shy. Tell us more about these “connections”. Umbilical? Drug related? Exactly how “concerned” are you, you little chin stroker you? On whose behalf? And how many is “some? “And what is this “blog” of which you speak? I’m dying to know.

I think Sonic might be a member of the Antipodean version of the SWP and we link to Hitchens Watch but otherwise I'm struggling.

Nice one sorting out the login thing in the face of my complete failure to help by the way! Sorry about that but I really couldn't see an effing thing that you had to do.

Surprisingly, I'm pretty sure he's talking about Justin Horton. It all springs from a particularly embarrassing mess of a comments thread on my blog, I reckon.

Anyway, this is his reasoning for that...

But I won't take any disagreement off you, Justin. Because, unlike the authors of HP, you are a contributor author of a Socalist Workers Party blog - Lenin's Tomb. That makes you at least an associate of a totalitarian, if not a totalitarian.

You allow yourself to be associated with Very Bad Politics.

Unlike me. Even if I am a colossal fool (which I would obviously dispute!), I do not give my imprimatur to totalitarians.

Simple - as I said then, the formula goes Lenin's Tombola>>>SWP>>>Genocidal Fascism.

Honestly - Very Bad Politics. You've got to love the ominous capitals.

I read Lenin's Tomb from time to time. A Trotskyist friend of mine came to my wedding a few years ago. I own a copy of Trotsky's Their Morals and Ours. And - come to think of it - I failed to condemn my Trot friend's 30th birthday party, which I attended and enjoyed. So I think I at least have the kinds of "connections" that damn the rest of Aaronovitch Watch by association. I hope this doesn't make things too awkward for the rest of you guys.

I've got Nicholas Mosely's biography of Trotsky, which clearly connects me to fascism, fascism to Trotsky and you lot to me in one throbbing totalitarian melange. But it feels so good!

Shouldn't it be "some of whom"?

Surely Ben is joking. His style could use a little more aggression (his aggression needs a little more style, anyway), but he manages every bad rhetorical trick Don quoted. He then appeals to a court of 'ordinary people' (ie the voices in his head who always agree with him) should Don compare 'Decents' with 'Trots' - which Don has in fact done with evidence because most of the 'Decents' 'are well-adjusted moderate members of the Labour Party'. CK above is all three of those too. I think RK only qualifies for 'well adjusted' and 'moderate'.

I'd like to know more about the 'difficult personal circumstances' which Trots may suffer though. Is this some new code for what used to be called 'working class'?

I don't have any Trotskyist mates, but I do know two lads from school who are in the BNP - does that count? The far left and the far right have joined forces, so I think it's fair enough to say they're basically Trotskyists.

Even worse, it connects you to me. Nicholas is the half-brother of Max who is the President of the FIA - until he resigns, anyway - and the FIA are the governing body of motor racing. Lewis Hamilton is a leading racing driver and he went to the same school that I did.

Jesus, not even six steps. It's scary.

I find it increasingly hard to believe the Decnetists are not just taking the piss. They don't mean this shit, surely?

In fairness, I tend to find that when people post on my blog at 10 past 6 in the morning, it's not because they are early risers wishing to complement me on my thoughtful insights, but that they're having a late night.

Let he who has never left a comment on a blog after a few ales cast the first stone etc. etc.

Gordon Brown would not be in politics if he had Asperger's, any more than David Blunkett could be a fighter pilot. Sorry, one of my peeves the way that's casually thrown around as an insult.

Now Blair clearly is mentally unstable, and Blunkett went right off the deep end.

Fraid not, however I think I know what he is talking about.

My Godchild's dad is in the SWP, and I've never recanted the child because of it.

You guys link to my site, a site polluted by my association with the spawn of a Trot.

He's got you bang to rights guys.

Ah, Cian, I didn't express myself clearly there. I don't believe that Gordon Brown has even a mild form of Asperger's. However, some 'well-balanced moderate' Labour members aren't above chucking about such claims at their own.

A note less pedantic than it may seem. I don't think it's actually possible to "have" Asperger's as I think the term describes a number of things rather than being a thing itself.

(I have this discussion a lot.)

Um, I see what you're saying Justin but its not quite that simple. Its true that "Aspergers" is currently defined by a series of symptoms, because nobody knows what causes it. However it almost certainly is a single syndrome connected to that part of the brain (whatever that is) that allows us to empathise. Baron-Cohen calls it mindblindness, which is a good description.

OK, I see what you're saying. I'm pretty underinformed about the biology of it to tell the truth. Part of my scepticism, too, is that there was a stretch a few years back where practically everybody who went near a psychiatrist's office was being told they had Asperger's, or "a touch of Asperger's" or what you will. It was the diganosis du jour and I'm not sure how much science went into that.

That sort of scepticism indicates that there's a place for you on the autism spectrum, ejh.
