Heads up for our Scottish readers!

Twas in the year 2006 and the month of January,
When it was announced that renowned columnist David Aaronovitch would go to Bonnie Dundee.
To deliver a lecture on "Conspiracy Theories: from JFK to Princess Diana",
In his usual thoughtful and erudite manner.

Oh dear I can see it now - "in fact Richard Nixon was much misunderstood. How many of us can really claim we wouldn't like to know what our opponents were saying about us. The vulnerability, the fallibilty, of those who try to guide us"

For it was in the year nineteen hundred and sixty three,
That an end was brought to the life of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
But whether he was shot by a lone gunman on a mission
Was never properly settled by the report of the Warren Commission.

And then in the year nineteen hundred and ninety seven
The Queen of Hearts was killed in a car crash in Paris and no doubt went up to heaven.
She was consorting at the time with a certain Dodi Fayed,
And many people thought that the British Establishment would wish him and very possibly the pair of them dead.

This is fun. (And appalling verse.)

I'm sure if Aaro had been a columnist during Nixon's time, he'd still have being denouncing Tricky Dicky's accusers as silly leftist conspiracy theorists at the same moment that Nixon was drafting his letter of resignation.

Then Professor Andrew Morris spoke on Metabolic Mayhem
And with his detailed knowlege of diabetes he did slay them

Afet which, Dr David Tappin made the audience glad they went,
Lecturing with all his heart on "Tsunamis — the Catastrophic Event"

Anyone hearing the wise words of Dr Kumi Naidoo,
Would never again accede to the request of a Liberal Democrat politician for a 'No. 2'

And no man could call him a on of a bitch
Who listened all agog to the great Aaronovitch

Th' Observer employs a columnist by the name of Nick Cohen
Who is considered unbiased by all us who know him,
Without any prejudice he commands not to listen
To the so-called scientific witterings of Dr Robert Winston.

A veritable expert on diseases like SARS
He calls all to boycott the dread MMRs.
He offers entertainment to AW betters
Who offer short odds on one Harry Fletcher.

He warns of the sinister nature of F4J
And the big brother antics of George Galloway
O Galloway, Galloway, Galloway, Galloway,
Galloway, Galloway, Galloway, Galloway,
The hero of columnists with nothing to say.

To bring us the news this Birmingham son
Suffers the snobs of gentrified Islington.
O'er their breakfasts he harangues the middle-classes
On behalf of the decent and th' unwashed huddled masses.

Political philosophers -- a continuing series
Who can tailor the facts to fit their pet theories
Surely no one is better in finding the data that fits
Than the Times' Decent Leftist Dave Aaronovitch.
